Trail of Tears

several routes over which thousands of Cherokee and other Indian peoples were forced to march and along which many died during the late 1830s to be resettled west of the Mississippi River largely in what is now Oklahoma
Note: In 1987 the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail was established as part of the National Park system on two of the principal routes extending roughly 2050 miles (3300 kilometers) between southeastern Tennessee and eastern Oklahoma.
